Are you allowed to have weird hair colors, as a nurse or hospital worker?

I've never seen anyone with pink hair or purple streaks or anything, but I wondered if it's allowed, given how desperate they are for nurses and staff. Are you allowed to have weird hair colors, as a nurse or hospital worker?
As far as I know, no. When I worked teaching MA students, they had to re-dye any weird colors before even internships would accept them. You can't have acrylic nails in all the hospitals I worked at either. Are you allowed to have weird hair colors, as a nurse or hospital worker?
There's a reason you've never seen staff members with weird hair colors/styles, piercings, etc....they don't get hired. ALL hospital employees represent the medical community as a whole, and are expected to adhere to very a strict code of ethics and conduct and professional appearance is at the top of the list.
