Why do Japanese anime characters always have unrealisitic hair colors?

I would understand that many of them would've dyed their hair, but what about Jiraiya from Naruto? He had white hair all his life, and it's a pretty safe bet he didn't dye it. Why do anime/manga creators feel the need to do that? Why do Japanese anime characters always have unrealisitic hair colors?
I don't know, maybe to give more uniqueness to their characters, to show that they aren't ordinary. Or it's possible the colors have meanings in Japan, too. Sakura's hair is pink like the Cherry Blossoms, and maybe that's her name because she blossoms and grows stronger as the story goes along.

If white stand for pure though, Jiraiya's not really pure, lol.Why do Japanese anime characters always have unrealisitic hair colors?
Its just because its unrealistic~ Anime is just a cartoon so sometimes tehre isnt any reality to it~

It might be with Jiraya just that he has white hair~ I have seen people with whitish hair or a very very bright blonde colour. It shows he is wise (even if he's a perv)

Most of the time though its that they're either demons or because their inhuman.

Sakuras hair colour, however, is supposed to be a little ';cute'; and for the refference to the name ';Sakura'; as cherry blossoms are pink.

Theres also blueish aqua colours too~ But like I said there really isnt any complete real reason, its just a cartoon. Like asking why Eddy from Ed Edd N Eddy has only 3 hairs on his head.

Sometimes its just to be colourful and different but being cute at the same time, like Lucky Star. Hell they look like little girls but their in in their late teens, mostly 17.

It also helps a little with the background or image of the character. Like the eye shape and size of a character effects how ';cute'; or ';mean'; they are, so does hair. Pink hair is ';bubbly'; and cute and aqua apparantly is just plain wierd... Like Ryoko from Tenshi in Tokyo, Boton in YuYu Hakusho.

Just know that its just a cartoon~ No real reason for anything~
Because that the style that they began with when the Japanese started to make their own comics. They borrowed the idea of american comic and stylized it in their own way, using japanese culture and ideals. later on, they separated from American style comic to their own style. And that's just the popular style for anime right now.
WHY BECAUSE THEY NEED SOME SUPER HAIR TO GO WITH THERE SUPER POWERS OF COURSE! THATS WHY! They don't dye their hair it came natural with the SUPER POWERS! but there normal hair fell out so lets take some fake super hero i jsut made up called yuanfkangaj he strated out with noraml hair but he took a bath with radioactive soap so now he has snak skin adn what-not has flowering long dread locks of pomogranite hair ok! Makes sense?
Various colors have specific meanings in the orient. The specific colors used represent the character's strengths. White stands for purity.
because it makes them stand out. and as a little kid didnt you always want blue or red hair? or at least some wild colour right? so there is the chance to make these characters alive with purple eyes and hair.
First I would say art. Some drawings just look better with unrealistic hair/eye colors. The best example of this is in demon eyes Kyo.

Second, different stereotypes. Pink hair-energetic and so forth...
Because the reality is that all people have straight black hair (you'll notice that manga heroes don't comb either).

This is sort of like asking how Bugs Bunny stands on his hind legs.
I think being cartoons that the illustrators get to play more with the characters then if this was movie with real people.
Those japanese are always being nifty and suspicious...
maybe he's an albino....
because they can
cause they are cartoons
